Sex and Design

The Sex in Design/Design in Sex exhibit, designed by James Biber and with graphics by Michael Bierut, recently opened at the Museum of Sex in New York.

The show sets out to examine the subconscious, as well as the intended, sexual imagery in design as it is found in the objects we wear, live with and use for erotic pleasure.

Sophie Thomas in Fabrica

Finally, after a long period of absence, lectures and workshops are back in Fabrica. Communication designer Sophie Thomas, co-founder and creative director of thomas.matthews London will be in the building from November 12th to 16th to lead an intensive cross-disciplinary workshop.
sophie-tomas.jpg Sophie Thomas together with Fabrica’s researchers and a selection of external participants from the center’s global think-net will focus the 5-day workshop on design and sustainability, entitled 99 months (the time scientifically agreed to tipping point to combat climate change).
The workshop closes with international critic Max Bruinsma, who will elaborate a critical writing on the results.

Is it art?

The Turner Prize is a contemporary art award that always provokes debate for its singular and innovative representation and meaning of art.

It is recognised as one of the most important and prestigious awards for the visual arts in Europe.
The exhibition will be held at Tate Liverpool until January 2008 and tickets are free.

Les Yeux Ouverts in Shanghai

The Centre Pompidou’s Fabrica: les yeux ouverts exhibition goes to China following an invitation by the Shanghai Cultural Development Foundation.

Rafael Lozano-Hemmer in Venezia

This year, Mexico presents its first official national representation at the 52nd International Art Exhibition, Biennale di Venezia, with a pavilion hosting a solo show by artist Rafael Lozano-Hemmer titled “Some Things Happen More Often Than All of The Time.”

Chairs responding to the presence of public, people turning into radio frequencies, a sensor recording the pulse of the visitors converting it into light flashes, a human eye following your movements. What Did I Do?

Last month, a University of Florida student was arrested during a forum with John Kerry while asking if he and Bush were members of the secret society Skull and Bones at Yale University.

While struggling with about -six- police officers when they tried to remove him from the session, he was Tasered and sent to jail. Police recommended charges of resisting arrest with violence, a felony, disturbing the peace and interfering with school administrative functions.
He asked for help, but most of the audience sat quietly while watching the absurd and abusive dispute.

Venice Film Festival

The Venice Film Festival, the oldest in the world, has arrived.
The 64th Mostra Internazionale d’Arte Cinematografica di Venezia unites works by young directors who are as yet unknown with works by the greatest film makers from around the world.

This year, the film selection has struck a rather more serious tone, including complex legal drama and a dangerous amount of melancholy with titles such as In the Valley of Elah, It’s a free world…, Atonement or The Darjeeling Limited. It will be running until September 8 and here you can find more information.

Indexiphilia

ChiefMag, a magazine by former fabricante Andy Smith, brings Indexiphilia, an installation of paper featuring the Space 1026 collective and friends.

Driven by an interest in the redefining of a space, the artists have been invited to produce a work that completely covers the walls of the gallery, creating freely and adhering only to the rule that every mark made can be repeated.
