brooklyn’s floating pool
So the Neptune Foundation is apparently this group of people who really liked the floating baths that traveled around NYC in the late 19th century and wanted to recreate some today. Well after years of planning and construction, they have done it. The first floating pool has opened this summer, stationed at Brooklyn Bridge Park with of course an amazing view of lower Manhatty. The pool is open to everyone free of charge. They host like 1000 people a day. That’s a lot of pee!

I swam in the pool last week. It’s very nicely done…unfortunately the artificial beach on the shore is less nice… basically sand in a parking lot. Also the system for getting into the pool is not very user friendly. You wait in line to get a specific time slot… and then you can enter the pool at that time. Because time slots are also given out only once an hour it means that you end up standing in a very long line just to get a slot that might be two hours away (this weekend the wait in line was 3 hours to get a slot and then another 2 hours to actually use the slot)… Once we got in we were impressed by the design of the place but then after about 30 minutes some kid took a dump in the pool and everyone was ordered out. Pool was closed for the day. Ahh New York.
